Beyond hospital and group leadership, he is an Affiliate Assistant Professor at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where he mentors the next generation of physicians and nephrologists. In addition to his hospital roles, Dr. Waheed serves as Medical Director at several dialysis programs, including ARC Dialysis Pompano and Fusion Dialysis PD, and previously directed United Dialysis Center and the inpatient dialysis service at Holy Cross Hospital. These positions allow him to help design and oversee the systems that support safe, effective dialysis care in both inpatient and outpatient settings.​


Over the years, he has also served as Chief of Nephrology and Secretary of the Department of Medicine at Holy Cross, roles that involve quality improvement, clinical guideline development, and collaborative care across specialties. This combination of frontline patient care and program leadership is central to the way he practices medicine.​


A global and community-focused perspective

Dr. Waheed’s commitment to kidney care extends beyond South Florida. Earlier in his career, he helped implement continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in the Maldives, providing education for physicians and nurses and supporting the launch of advanced dialysis for critically ill patients.​

He has also served in public health and health education roles in the Maldives, reflecting a longstanding interest in prevention, equity, and access to care. His fluency in Dhivehi and Urdu, conversational Spanish, and literacy in Arabic support his work with diverse patient communities.​
